TIPS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

  1. You should never be asked to pay for services up front.
  2. Never pay for a free prize. It is against federal law if you are told the money requested is for taxes.
  3. Never give out personal information such as credit card, bank accounts, date of birth or social security number to unfamiliar companies or persons.
  4. Always research the company before making any decisions.
  5. Make inquires about the organization. Get contact information and telephone number. It is your right to authenticate the charity. Remember…if they are legitimate they will comply with your requests.
  6. If approached by an unfamiliar charity, check it out. The Better Business Bureau will have information regarding all charities, organizations and companies.

TIPS FOR FAMILY MEMBERS

  1. Encourage unannounced visits by family and friends.
  2. Keep an up-to-date inventory of valuables.
  3. Maintain a safe deposit box for cash, jewelry, financial records, stock certificates, bonds ect.
  4. Watch for unusual activity, including money disappearing that can not be explained.
